Spring training is finally kicking into full gear. There are plenty of spots for players not on a 40-man roster. Now they have a chance at making the opening day lineup. We will see these players battle it out, so here are some players you should watch out for.

1B – T.J. Rumfield – Colorado Rockies

The Rockies have an opening at first base due to several roster moves. Rumfield is one of the guys now competing for the opening day job. Rumfield was acquired for Angel Chivilli last month. Rumfield has a great glove and consistently hits around 15 home runs per season. If he can win the opening day job, he will be a big player in a hitter-friendly ballpark.

RHP – Carlos Carrasco – Atlanta Braves

The Braves’ pitching staff has had many injuries. Due to these injuries, they might need to turn to a reliable arm. Carrasco did solid work with the Cleveland Guardians in the past. He is known as a good back-of-the-rotation starter for teams that need it. Carlos didn’t have the best luck with the New York Yankees last year. Still, he had a good first start with the Braves on Saturday, February 21st. This new environment could help him get the ball rolling again.

RHP – Skylar Hales – St. Louis Cardinals

Skylar was traded as part of the Phil Maton trade at the 2025 trade deadline. Now, Skylar is looking to crack the St. Louis Cardinals’ roster this year. Due to Riley O’Brien’s current injury, that could open a spot for him to compete for. Hales is a flamethrower, and that seems to be a trend as of late. Hales could easily take a bullpen spot if he continues to impress in spring training this year.

SS – Colt Emerson – Seattle Mariners

The Mariners have been pretty vocal about their plans. They are allowing Colt Emerson to compete for a spot on the 40-Man this spring. Naturally, you’ve got to be excited for this. Colt Emerson has power in his bat. If this power transitions to the MLB level, he could be a threat. Every time he steps up to the plate, the opposition should be wary. Emerson had 13 errors in the minors this year at shortstop, so that’s definitely something to worry about.
