Spring Training is finally over, and with it so is Spring Breakout. Spring Breakout shows us what the future stars of tomorrow are capable of producing in an exhibition-style format. This event provides significant exposure to these young prospects from all 30 teams. It also gives them a chance to showcase their skills. As an avid prospect fan, here are five performers who impressed me during these games.

LHP – Zachary Root – Los Angeles Dodgers

Zachary Root was selected by the Dodgers in the 1st round of the 2025 MLB Draft. Root made his pro debut in Spring Breakout in a long relief role and definitely met expectations. Root struck out eight hitters over 3 innings of work and allowed only one hit. This definitely shows the skill he has on the mound with his fastball averaging around 97 MPH. Root’s secondaries worked tremendously to help add deception, so it’s shock why he made it to this list.

SS – Gavin Fien – Washington Nationals

Gavin Fien was another first-round selection in 2025 by the Rangers. He was the main piece in the MacKenzie Gore trade to the Nationals. Gavin wasted no time showcasing his talents to his new organization during the Spring Breakout game against the Cardinals. Gavin went 3-4 and tallied up 3 hits, 5 RBIs, and a walk. Two of Gavin’s hits during this showcase were doubles. Gavin has a really impressive bat. Let’s hope to see him in the majors sooner rather than later.

TWP – Shotaro Morii – Athletics

Shotaro Morii has been considered the next Shohei Ohtani. Morii has the tools to be just as good as Ohtani once fully developed. He really showed his skills during the Spring Breakout game. Morii went 2-2 with 2 hits and an RBI while playing second base. Morii has yet to show his pitching in a game. Thankfully, he will be given the chance this year at Low-A Stockton.

RHP – Lan-Hong Su – San Diego Padres

Lan-Hong Su was only 18-years-old when he signed a contract with the Padres. He is now 19-years-old and is already throwing 97 MPH. Su entered Spring Breakout with zero pro experience and ended it with a scoreless inning. Lan-Hong Su also managed to strike out two hitters during his one inning of work. Su definitely has a long way to go, though his current fastball and secondaries look exceptionally good.

RHP – Anthony Eyanson – Boston Red Sox

I’ve been extremely high on Anthony Eyanson since I first discovered him in 2024. Eyanson was a 3rd round pick out of LSU by the Red Sox. He performed extremely well in his first outing in the organization. Eyanson went one scoreless inning while striking out the side in a dominant fashion. He was also able to reach 100 MPH on his fastball while still having effective secondaries at the time. Eyanson should be given a starter’s workload during the MiLB season. It’ll be very interesting to see if he can continue his dominance.
