The New York Yankees have hit their first skid of the early 2026 season. Currently the Bronx Bombers look much more like the Bronx Bloopers. For the Yankees, a team that was expected to be amongst the best team since the league have found themselves playing less than stellar baseball. So we’re gonna examine a few observations about this losing streak.
IT’S NOT THE STARTING PITCHING’S FAULT
The starting picthing for the Yankees have mostly delivered great performances. Starters for the Yankees have given up no more than three runs in any single game. Yankee starters have been able to keep the team in ballgames. For any baseball team getting good starting pitching usually is a key ingredient to a successful game. Examining what the starters have done would be a welcomed sign for any team, let alone one with World Series aspirations.
DEFUSED BOMBERS
In contrast to the highly successful starting pitching has been the frozen tundra that has been the Yankees’ bats. If the “Bronx Bombers” are to get back to living their moniker, they are going to need to do something quickly. This frozen offense was never more evident than the brilliant eight inning start by Ryan Weathers against the “homeless” Athletics where the team lost 1-0. There was nearly nothing more that Weathers could have done to give the Yankees the opportunity to win. New York was arguably the most prolific offense in baseball in 2025. And while many players will get back to the numbers on the back of their baseball cards by season’s end, the early season struggles are presently glaring.
DOWN AMERICAN LEAGUE HIDING YANKEES POOR PLAY
At the time of this article, the Yankees are locked into a three game losing streak, after getting off to a hot start on their opening West Coast trip. The Yankees are enjoying still having the best record in the American League because the league as a whole is down. How down is the American League, you may ask? Well, of the fifteen teams in the AL only five have a record that is at least .500. yes, that’s correct two-thirds of the American League is sporting a losing overall record. Of course, it’s early and that trend is not likely to continue. However, in the early goings the AL being down is masking the current run of ineptitude that Yankees are presently playing . Both the Yankees and the AL are going to need to turn things around very quickly or the 2026 season will be in store for a very lackluster season.
