In the world of Major League Baseball, there is a term to describe an absolutely gifted talent. That term is a five-tool player. To be a five-tool player, you must possess all five of the different skills or abilities that make up a baseball player. The skills or tools are the ability to hit for average, as well as for power, the possession of speed, and a lockdown defender who also possesses a plus rocket of an arm. Those five tools all in one player make for a legendary and valuable weapon and talent in the game. There are some players who own many of the tools necessary. However, many more players do not. Thus, for this article, we will create a five-tool mega player using different members of the Atlanta Braves roster.

CONTACT TOOL: DRAKE BALDWIN

In 2026, Drake Baldwin has been an absolute force in the Atlanta Braves lineup. It seems as if every night, Baldwin is driving the ball all over the field and driving runs in for the Bravos. Baldwin is delivering a strong batting line in 2026, and for an Atlanta team that has dealt with a plethora of injuries over the past few seasons, having a reliable every-day backstop behind the dish that connects with the baseball as Drake has been is nothing short of a manager’s dream.

POWER TOOL: MATT OLSON

Matt Olson has got to be baseball’s quietest home run hitter. It seems as if the baseball world is so focused on other power hitters around the sport that Matt Olson is almost an afterthought, except that is, for opposing pitchers. Olson has been a prolific home run hitter since his days at the very expansive Oakland Alameda County Coliseum during his younger years with the Athletics. However, since joining the Braves, Olson has exponentially multiplied his power output and again quietly become one of baseball’s best power hitters. And thus Matt becomes the obvious candidate for the power tool for the 2026 Atlanta Braves mega five-tool player.

SPEED TOOL: JORGE MATEO

The calling card for Jorge Mateo has always been his speed. Over the course of his career, Mateo has been moved around, platooned, pinch hit for, and an assortment of other baseball-related factors. However, one thing that has never happened to Jorge Mateo is being pinch run for; in contrast, Mateo is usually the guy coming in to run for other, more lumbering players. Naming a speed tool is simple when a player like Jorge Mateo is on the roster.

DEFENSE TOOL: MICHAEL HARRIS II

“Money,” Michael Harris II is an underrated talent in the Braves lineup. There isn’t really anything he can’t do on a baseball field. That being said, one of the things he does best in the Braves lineup is go and get the baseball. There have been several game-saving catches made by “Money” Mike. And when you think about defense, those are some of the thoughts that you have: Can this player save a ballgame with his glove? And Michael Harris II has definitely saved some Braves games with his glove.

ARM TOOL: RONALD ACUÑA JR

Ronald Acuña Jr’s throwing ability is nothing short of otherworldly. Watching what Ronald does on his throws, being flat-footed, no momentum moving him in one direction or another, is absolutely insane. The decision to name Acuña Jr has the Braves’ arm tool was one of the easiest in the entire countdown of this article series. If you don’t believe me, I’ve included a video below to show you exactly what Ronald is, without question, the arm of the 2026 Atlanta Braves five-tool mega player.

Quote of the week

You can’t sit on a lead and run a few plays into the line and just kill the clock. You’ve got to throw the ball over the damn plate and five the other man his chance. That’s why baseball is the greatest game of them all.
