There have been ongoing conversations in MLB about expanding the league from 30 to 32 teams. This potential addition leaves many cities hopeful about their chance at expansion. This article will look at four potential cities to host new MLB Expansion teams.
LOCATION #1: MONTREAL, QUEBEC, CANADA
Montreal used to be the home of an MLB as recently as 2004. However, when the team moved to Washington and became the Nationals, Montreal Expos fans had to convert to Toronto Blue Jays fans. But the market is there; the fan base is there, just clamoring for their own team. The Expos had quite several future Hall of Famers come through their organization. And rebuilding the legacy of the once-great franchise could be all the motivation needed to expand further into Canada than we already are with Toronto.
LOCATION #2: NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE
Music City is a perfect place for a baseball team. America’s favorite pastime of baseball could meet America’s music, country. The idea of baseball in Nashville is spectacular, as arguably the best college baseball program (Vanderbilt) produces tons of Major League talent. Adding a professional baseball team to Nashville could easily be a match made in heaven. We know that a contingent is already trying to convince MLB to expand into Nashville. Thus Nashville must be on this list.
LOCATION #3: OMAHA, NEBRASKA
Omaha, Nebraska, is the home of the College World Series and, thus, a logical choice for an MLB expansion. Bringing a Major League franchise to the home of the best college baseball series holds many merits. Showing the future of the game how it’s currently played could easily be a reason and a place for an MLB expansion.
LOCATION #4: CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA
Expanding into new markets can be a great source of furthering the game of baseball. And MLB could begin with an otherwise untapped market in Charlotte, North Carolina. As it’s been nicknamed, the Queen City could easily host a new MLB team. The market finds its way between the Baltimore Orioles and the Atlanta Braves. Adding another team to the eastern divisions in MLB makes a lot of sense, seeing how densely populated the areas have become. More populous means more revenue. A major city like Charlotte could attract a lot of new eyes to a billion-dollar industry like MLB.
OTHER POTENTIAL LOCATIONS
There are many other places that MLB could potentially call home for an expansion team. Portland, Oregon, is already being considered. International places like Mexico City, Mexico, or San Juan, Puerto Rico, could also be a destination for an MLB expansion. We could also see a team in Hawaii or Iowa because if you build it, they will come. New Orleans, Louisiana, or Salt Lake City, Utah, could be the new home of an MLB expansion team. We could even suggest the home of the National Baseball Hall of Fame, Cooperstown, New York, as a potential new home. There are many possible places that MLB could choose as a new home city. In the end, no matter what location is chosen, expanding to incorporate more cities into the baseball landscape is a positive development for Major League Baseball.
